LAS ÁNIMAS BEACH
One of the most popular beaches off the beaten path south of Puerto Vallarta. Surrounded by lush tropical vegetation, soft amber sand, crystal clear water and gentle waves, Las Animas is a dreamy little paradise.
It is a great beach for swimming and snorkeling. You can also enjoy other water activities such as parasailing and banana rides.
At one of the unpretentious beachfront restaurants, you will find comfortable lounge chairs, which are usually available for rent at affordable prices or for a minimal food and beverage charge. Most offer fresh seafood menus and traditional Mexican dishes best enjoyed with an ice cold margarita in the shade of your own palapa.
Las Animas is also home to the Las Animas Beach Adventure Park, an eco-friendly recreational facility located just steps from the beach. Zip lines and a variety of family adventure tours are available, most of which last +5 hours and include snacks and light meals.
Las Animas Beach is easily accessible by sea by boarding a panga or water taxi from Los Muertos Pier or Boca de Tomatlán. Several all-inclusive day tours depart daily from the Puerto Vallarta Cruise Port to the idyllic beaches south of the bay. Many make the Las Animas pier their first stop.
There is also a moderately strenuous hiking trail that runs from the town of Boca de Tomatlán along the coast and up through the mountains. Following the trail for a little less than 2 miles will allow you to enjoy breathtaking scenic views.
Before reaching Las Animas Beach, you may be tempted to make a quick stop at the paradisiacal Colomitos Beach.
